I have done some research on LCD monitors. I know they are a lot smaller than CRTs, they can provide widescreen resolutions/bigger resolutions, but I am still skeptical about them in three things. For example:

A good CRT with a fast refresh rate won't have any issues with flicker. A lot of idiots would run their CRT's at 60Hz and wonder why they get eye strain and headaches.

Also, there are plenty of widescreen CRT's, and CRT's almost always have FAR higher resolutions than their LCD couterparts.

The media has pushed people to believe that LCD's are the new and best thing, when in reality they're a pretty big step down in terms of quality. CRT's have deeper and more accurate color, better black levels, better resolutions, refresh rates, etc. LCD's are meant to be economical..small, efficient on power, and cheap to produce.

If you want a big and cheap LCD, this is the way to go:

If you want one that actually looks good, you'll have to spend a lot more and invest in a VA or IPS panel.

As far as standard (4:3) or widescreen (16:10), it's a matter of preference. A widescreen will offer less screen space per inch, but is better for movie viewing. If it's 21" or smaller I tend to stick with 4:3, anything bigger than that and widescreen is usually more pleasing to the eye.

Thanks, Cheetah and Konata Izumi for the suggestions. At first, I thought Dell is the best brand, but now I think that is what the media probably wants us to believe.

the whole thing about lcds having worse quality than crt's isnt nescessarily true.
the monitor im getting is a 24 inch acer.
it has a 2ms response time, and a 50000:1 contrast ratio.

CRT's are generally worse for you since your are, in essence, being bombarded with various radiations. An LCD does not function in this way, no radiation is being pushed into your eyes.

How do you tell what kind of moniter you have?

There's nothing on my moniter except the brand, and the various buttons.

I'd say its pretty close to 20 pounds, but then again, it's a 19 inch moniter.

I recently got home a paper proving some facts, i find it later on today...
But i would suggest Samsung Syncmaster 226bw (i own one, and i love it)

And always try to have the max hz possible on your monitor.
