Save $200+ with a Q9550 @2.8GHz or even more with a Q6600.
Scrape that water cooling setup and with air cooling. WC requires dedicated maintenance.

Get Home Premium or Ultimate and go with a better graphic card like a
HD4870 X2

Get better Keyboard + Mouse.

And you can get Windows Vista a special way, but we're not allowed to say it here. Wink

I find it quite sad that people are willing to spend $600 or more on a graphic card that probably last 6 months before the next best one comes out but their not willing to spend $200 or less on a OS that can be used for 5+ years.

btw, he's got $1700 so the OS won't break his budget.

Looks good, but remember that dual cards are only as good if the game supports it and you're playing at a high resolution.

At least 1600x1200.

make sure you get Vista Ultimate x64 if you want to enjoy those 2 video cards =D. If your not getting x64 then get XP because you'll have a lot of problems with Vista x32(x84)

There won't be a lot of "problems" with x32, besides the RAM. x32 won't recongnize all 4GB of the RAM, so you pretty much have to get x64.

Mayb you can save some money and choose a case without a power supply?

And if you take Liquid cooling, I'd go for the Q6600 processor and overclock it to 3-4 Ghz

CrossFire and SLi are not worth it for price/performance. Buy a 4870 or a GTX 260.

The $170 from the OS is a lot. With $170, he can get 8GB of RAM (2GB x 4) and get a 640GB 7,200 RPM hard drive. More RAM is always better. If you do Photoshop, 4GB isn't gonna cut it for 1GB+ image files.

If he gets a selects a different power supply than default, he gets the new power supply instead of the stock one.
