Then change the compatability to fucking Windows XP. Duh. It's not that hard.

Vista > XP hands down.

Get Vista Home Premium, you don't need Ultimate.

I would prepared an arguement showing why Vista is much better than XP, but all you XPfags who apparently know everything even though your 768mb ram Pc that takes 5 minutes to boot up cant even run xp properly so i am just going to say this.

VISTA > XP

You probably wouldnt listen anyway and complain more about Vistas apparent "compatibility problems" and "crashes".

Did you even read what the other people said?

If you have a slow PC XP wins, otherwise, Vista is much better. Thats it.

It's x86 not x84.

By the way, I'm installing Vista Basic right now, it's 3 times quicker than XP Pro.

Vista Basic virtually sucks, you're better off with Home Premium or Ultimate, if you're headed with Vista.

Most of the directx 10 titles I have played appear virtually no different (graphically) to their dx9 rendermodes... Its still stupid in my opinion to go for vista purely because of dx10. You think you're gaining something...but... you're really just gonna get a lot of headache.

You don't gain anything directly by using DX 10, mostly games get an new
Option, like:
DX9 got, low, medium, high
DX10 got, all but also very high
(Just an expample)

DX10, got veryhigh because DX9 can't have it because of bad coding which is fixed in DX10.

Uh, almost every single game has performance go DOWN (at the same graphics settings) in it's DX10 codepath compared to DX9.

DX9 is capable of almost everything DX10 is. There's a lot more shit standardized and enforced under the new DX releases though, and the API has received a pretty considerable overhaul.

You will NOT see a performance gain just from doing a port from DX9 to DX10. A lot of things have changed in it for the better; draw calls in DX9 were ridiculously expensive, etc. Driver overhead should be much less now, and there's plenty of new opportunities for speedups.

Naive ports will simply bring performance down, it has nothing to do with shoddy coding within the API itself. Saying DX10 is the only reason for such high settings is wrong, in most cases you'll find it's a little thing called MARKETING.
