umm.. I didn't get that post...

"I've got to wait 10x the time I would wait with vista."

Didn't you say you have vista?

And also, I highly doubt your OS to be limiting your download speed.
Maybe just bad torrents? (few seeds, low speeds)

I meant XP, sorry.
And no, it's vista.
I've got another computer hooked up to a totally different modem, and it's getting 5x the speeds vista is getting.

Are they running at the same time?
The other could be "robbing" all the bandwidth from the other one.

and it doesn't matter if you have 2 different modems, unless you have 2 ISP's aswell..

Well then..

Try using some other torrent client, if the download speed is higher.
(Tho, never met a client faster than µtorrent)

I had vista before, and bittorrenting was fine, after I did something to it.
Now, I don't know what I did.

Get a hammer and smash your PC into small bits.

OR

Format your PC and re-install vista. Or then, just try system recovery

You said you had vista and it worked fine before u did something to it.

That's how it would help.

Networking is somewhat fucked pre-SP1, if you don't have it, get it. I have no trouble.

You can try allowing more connections within utorrent, however Windows (not just Vista) limits the number of half open connections badly. Go find the TCPIP patcher, and see if it helps.

moved btw.

Didn't stop to think that perhaps its your ISP? Try hooking the modem that's used on XP up to the Vista PC and check the speeds.

My Road Runner is severely limited download wise if I'm uploading really anything over 10kb/s.

It's not my isp.
It's the OS.
I tried switching modems too, and it's still the same basic speeds.

Like SF said.... its looking like the ISP without much doubt... How can you still say its the OS after just changing a modem or trying another PC Razz

Perhaps your old XP setup didn't have SP2 or you used the patched tcp.sys that does allow more than 10 connection attemps at the same time

I guess vista still has that horrible 'DoS protection'. Perhaps there's a patch for it in vista as well. And hope you didn't get the 64-bit vista version because editing .sys files there is a big no

Even without a modified 32-bit tcpip.sys file, my last install of Vista still allowed enough connections to establish a full-speed torrent... which is why I would seriously think it was the ISP themselves... some very bad ones at these days... those that were good no longer are.

You sound pretty desperate. Desperate enough to try these programs?

http://www.download-boosters.com/

or

http://www.ezboosters.com/

Supposedly they boost p2p client download speeds. There's a µTorrent version for each of those download accelerators. I can't vouch for them, never used them. Can't see how they might help if your isp is limiting your bandwidth speeds. They're not free. Confused

Unless you know where to look. Hint : Team F4CG Twisted Evil

Format your PC yourself then, put XP back on it. Tried reinstalling any modem drivers?

How does Vista interfere with your internet speed? That's total bullshit. I get the same speed with XP as with Vista. Make sure you disable Windows Firewall and uninstall any other AV/Firewall programs.
