You can get much better for that much.

Very Happy please, PLEASE learn what you're talking about before you post, you're not helping anyone. Intel is not always better, especially in the lower price ranges, for example to x4 phenoms, all i've seen for $120-$175 beat every other intel for the price.

Anyways. @OP: it's like frostbyt3 says, the phenom is better but you could get a better one for the price. Especially if you build it yourself. Which isn't as hard as most think.

I'm not a fanboy of intel or AMD, fanboys are stupid. I want to get the best performance for the price and i do RESEARCH to find out which will fit me best, not just the manufacturer. I'm going with an anthlon in my current build, a phenom in my next (Since i'll have more money) and a c2q (probably) in my one after that.

Thats a major rip-off man you can go quad for 800. And to who ever says that Intel is better: ITS BEEN PROOVEN MANY TIMES THAT AMD IS FASTER AND CHEAPER. The Phenom is "only" 300% better when playing hard-core games(its been proven google if you dont believe).... and easily overclocks to 4.0mhz with good cooling.

Mmmhmmm, yeah, sure...

Before, when it was Athlon 64X2 vs. Pentium 4, then sure, I'd half-believe you with "300% faster". But the Intel Core 2 microarchitecture and processors from the family tree sweeps most or all of AMD's processors in the same range (considering dual cores vs. dual cores and quad cores vs. quad cores). From benchmarks gaming benchmarks, the Q6600 is about 33% faster than the Phenom 9600, and it's priced in the same manner.

Yes, Phenoms can do 4MHz overclocks. But even the Black Edition Phenom has lots of difficulty hitting 3GHz. On the other hand, the Q6600 can hit 3GHz right out of the box on most motherboards, no need to tinker with core voltage and multipliers.

KLS's build looks pretty smooth. You could probably cut $20 by downgrading the mouse to a "regular" Microsoft Wireless mouse. This 4GB Corsair kit looks pretty good for the price. The motherboard that kls selected is fine, but I'd go with P45-chipset motherboard, like this or this. An Antec 300 and the 550W NeoPower combo deal looks nice, although the current PSU and case are fine. Graphics cards:
