I'm building my computer in a few days and can't find a fresh XP OS after hours of googling and torrent searching so i guess i'm just going to get a linux OS but the problem is i've only used windows OSes for my entire life so i'm a little scared xP. I'm wondering if there's any linux program that can let me run a windows program on it or recompile the windows program as a linux compatible program since i rarely see linux compatible programs.
Also, what are the pros/cons of linux?
And which 'flavor' of linux do you guys recommend?

Theres a program called WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator) which can run "Windows"programs
I've used Linux Ubuntu and I liked XP/Vista better
My friend got Linux Mint and he says it rocks, but i cant test it because my keyboard/mouse wont work on it :S
Also
You might wanna try one of them customized XP versions?

I read about wine but saw something about it only working with x86 programs or processors.
Anyways, i'll check out the site, thanks ^^.

| Go with Ubuntu and start downloading some E-books on Linux, you will really learn alot from them.

Linux: for servers and people who like doing things the hard way
not really much point in using it IMO.
only time I would recommend it is to bring a really old/crap computer back to life because of its low system resource usage

I suggest using Ubuntu to start off with. You should also get some (e-)books on the linux command line, trust me it helps. Btw, 101 Reasons Linux is Better than Windows

Heres what I recommend for Linux:
Ubuntu
DSL (Damn small linux, very small size, can run in windows XP)
LINUX.COM!!!

All of that is nonsense when linux fails at the key points of being a major player dominante by Windows and Apple.
Key points are
-Centeralized Support
-Easy to install drivers
-Make the OS easy to use for the everyday joe, not just for geeks who loves coding.
And if you want those fancy effects on a live disc, try Sabayon
