For Vista when you do not have the green globe next to the network icon it's only connected as a "local network"

@OP, Go to network and sharing center, on the left hand side click on manage wireless networks, and delete all wireless connections in the list.
After that let your adapter redetect the wireless signals and reconnect.

i tried doing what you said and it brought me to wireless network connection and local area connection. btw i can connect to my friends internet just fine.



EDIT: Nvm i got it but it still didnt work Sad
