People act like Verizon FiOs ( aka Fiber Optics ) is something new and good. Why is it so hyped up? What makes it different than the Fiber Optics Comcast and ATT had down since the stone age?

I'm getting AT&T Fiber optics this week. It's cheaper connection plus cheaper Tv for more channels all included in one package.

Because FiOS lives up to its hype.
I experience much better performance than RoadRunner's best service package, and I'm only using the lowest service package available for FiOS.

Because it's FTTP, there's no copper involved so there's far more bandwidth available. The packages typically give much better bandwidth for your money than competing technologies, and it's the framework for much faster connections down the road.
