|
|
Hey,
I'm making a program in VB6 that needs to detect what music is playing (for ex. in Media Player etc.) & then return the music file path. I'm not sure what API I need for it and I searched the net, no results... please help!
e.g. I open MySong.mp3 with media player & my program can say: it's saved in that directory (if it's even possible... prob I need to write hooks?)
EDIT: Is it possible to lower mp3 bitrate in VB6?
Sincerely,
Kerelmans

Good question.
To be honest here, i'm not sure this is possible.
I've never seen any program "detect music playing", unless you want it to detect the Media Player being used, which would be very simple.
Music(.mp3's for example) is not the same as a process. You cant just scan for a .mp3 playing.
Idea for how this could work:
- Have your program scan for common Media Player's in the process list.
- Next, have it scan your computer for music files, and open them.
Note: Usually if you open a music file that is already being played, it will pop up with a message "This file is already being used".
Anyone have any other thoughts?

| For example, check if Winamp or whatever is open. Continuing on that, if Winamp is playing, it's caption will be the title of the song, which you can easily get from it.

| Make a output graph for the speaker, and make it detect if the sound increases beat or melody for a period of time.

Well what kind of method do MSN and iTunes use? When you play a song on iTunes and it shows up on MSN?
Not sure how that works, but give that some thought.

That's what I mean, MSN can detect the current song... maybe Media Player stores it somewhere in registry? No idea...

Download the WMP SDK and check out the remote skin sample, or make use of a Now Playing plugin.
WMP SDK -> msdn . microsoft . com/en-us/windowsmedia/bb190327.aspx
Now Playing Plugin -> brandon . fuller . name/archives/hacks/nowplaying/wmp/
