Apparently the front-end of the OS is going to be written in managed code where possible. That'll give them a reason to seriously focus on future .NET framework development, and it'll be a brilliant step for developers.
I've also read that it will no longer fully parse the fonts directory on boot, that should shave off a whole heap of time (add 300+ fonts to your machine from a font library/package, then reboot... you'll see what I mean).

Which comment - the managed code one or the the fonts one?
I can't remember where I read about the managed code thing, but I don't see why it's that unbelievable.
In fact I can't remember where I read about the font thing either... possibly the same place. It's a well known bug due to the design of the OS and GUI system.

| The managed code part. Just seems a bit strange to me.

| Not really. It's a Microsoft technology and implements all of the principles needed at a level that provides simplicity, versatility and security. And as I said, the article only said "where possible". Obviously the kernel, drivers and core API wouldn't be written in .NET.
