I've posted 2 of these over the past few months but things have come up irl and i haven't been able to get them. This is an updated version of the last one.

19" LCD monitor - $150
Case - $80
Motherboard - $99
2.4ghz C2Q Q6600 - $190
2x2GB RAM - $52
Radeon HD4850 512MB GPU - $160
250GB HDD - $55
Mouse and keyboard - $30
CD/DVD R/W - $23
500w PSU - $35

Current cost: $879 (USD)

This is my first build and i didn't know anything about this stuff when i started so i need some advice on some things, anything that you think would make it better for around the same price.

Newest update 9/16: New case +mouse/keyboard

I don't need a bigger hdd, i don't torrent, take pics, listen to much music or that kind of stuff. Just download games and some programs. I've probably only used 20gb at the most in the past 2-3 years but that's mainly 1-5gb games in the past few months (WoW, fiesta, trickster, ect) and i was thinking about downloading the OS but i don't know where to look or the risks xP

look on any torrent site
only "risk" is that your windows key might get blacklisted

I would rather go with Intel then AMD, but besides that it looks like a pretty good build!

Very Happy thanks, i've had some help. And i'd rather not go into AMD vs Intel, each have their own pros and cons. I'd go for either but only if the performance would be better for a reasonable price. Not just because you favor intel or w/e xP no offense intended.

It actually would be better for a reasonable price. Atleast the price/performance ratio would be... obvious.

Though, if you want to go with AMD, there is no way in stopping you.

Well in my opinion i would go with the High-end Core2Quad processor ( 194 USD )... What is your processor spending limit?

Hm, i'd be willing to go around $200 since i'm not buying an OS anymore.. Maybe a bit higher. But from what i hear the quad cores aren't true quads, they're just 2 dual cores.

It is true they are not 4 cores, but really 2 dual-cores, but it is mostly just a marketing scheme when they are like "We have 4 true cores and they have 2 dual cores...". 2x2 = 1+1+1+1

The Intel Core2Quad kicks the AMD Phenoms butt, especially now at its low low price. ( Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 )

Yep Q6600 is awesome
I can do like 10 things at the same time: play 2 games, listnen to music, download stuff, burn a dvd, do some photoshop etc etc
All at the same time without any lag

(And you can overclock it with the stock fan)

I did some more researching, q6600 is ~2x as powerful as the one i had up there (judging from benchmarks) so i guess i'll go with that but now i have to find a new mobo and possibly a new case.
