| Currently I have vista ultimate installed on my laptop, but I want to re-install XP SP2 since it doesn't eat your RAM so much, but my problem is that every time I install XP, it doesn't recognize any devices. Doesn't recognize graphics card, graphics drivers, visual drivers, audio drivers, w/e etc. When I'm done installing it it always gives me some crappy 800x600 resolution with choppy scrolling. Anything I could do to make xp recognize my drivers like vista?

Thats because vista doesnt want you to install xp or sumthing
I believe theres a topic on this on the 1st or 2nd page

Windows XP does not have a large driver database like Vista so most likely it won't automatically find the drivers for all of your components.
Three ways you can try is go to your notebook's website and see their are drivers for Windows XP. If not then you'll have to look at each of the component's website to download each individual drivers.
Lastly use Windows update or hardware automatic driver search to see if that helps.
Some devices maybe OEM and the driver will only be provided by your notebook OEM. If the driver is not there, then your out of luck.
Most notebook these days are designed for Vista, even if you can get all of your drivers some functionality on your notebook may ceased to work in XP.

| Go look for XP drivers. XP doesn't spoonfeed you all the drivers like Vista does. You have to do it yourself.

what the fuck are you talking about. Whenever I try to install drivers it tells me that it can't find any hardware or components nub.

If you ran your drivers CD and got that problem... Then I recommend you check your device manager. Then see what drivers are missing and needs to be installed and search for them manually.

WTF is that man, [url]GOOGLE.com[/url]
Laptop's are PreBuilt with Vista with the companies modified version.
They have all of the driver's preinstalled into vista already.
Even when you create a backup disk of Vista all the driver's will still be there.
When you removed Vista, ur XP disc didn't contain any of the driver's of that laptop like the vista disc did.
So your gonna have to go to your laptop brand site looking for xp drivers/windows updates and bazillion times/ Search each hardware's site for your driver's.
To find what type of hardware you have search through Device Managaer.

Windows XP came out in 2001 and Vista came out in 2007.
Between these years XP has been updated, but all Microsoft did was slipstream service pack into their new builds, but that does not mean their driver database build into the disc has been updated.
If you install Vista onto a clean system Vista you'll have a better chance
getting all of your components automatically detected and ready to use.
Comparing Vista drivers database to XP...
Vista: 19,500
XP: 10,000
When Vista first shipped:
Number of driver available on Windows update: 11,700
Number of drivers available on Windows update when
XP first shipped: 2,000
Total for Vista: 31,200
Total for XP: 12,000
By not including the number of drivers on Windows update, my point still stands. Windows Vista has a larger driver database than XP. The chances of your components being found automatically right after installing Vista is greater than after installing XP
