Pssh, I first used VBA when I was 9. 
Seriously. I still have my collection of 40 or so roms that I gathered over about a year (dial-up didn't help, and I spent a lot of time playing each game).

I only learned about it after a friend introduced me to it in 2001/2002.
I had dial up as well. I also had a virus filled computer running at 128physical ram. While playing VBA I'd get countless popups. My McAfee Virus Center would always be shitting a brick but would do nothing.
