Wikipedia wrote:
ReadyBoost is an operating system feature included with Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system. It works by using flash memory, USB 2.0 drive, SD card, CompactFlash or any kind of portable massive flash storage as a drive for disk cache.

ReadyBoost is also used to facilitate SuperFetch, an updated version of Windows XP's prefetcher which performs analysis of boot-time disk usage patterns and creates a cache which is used in subsequent system boots.[1]

Readyboost is pretty helpful seeing as the read times off a thumbdrive are faster than a HDD. [or something along those lines, I might be confused.]

Also, in a test done with a machine running only 512MB physical putting in a sizable thumbdrive caused average program startup to go from 18seconds to 2seconds. Its on that wikipage.

Windows Ready boost provides a minimal boost in performance and cannot be compared to extra system ram.

Also you'll need a KB patch in order to use ready boost from drives larger than 4GB.

Not all flash drives or flash media are compatible with ready boost.

It's a last ditch for a faster computer. It just basically uses external storage as more cache.

Not quite sure, but the only way to find out is if you can enable Ready Boost. If Ready Boost can be enabled then it works, if not then no.

Also it does not mean having the good flash drive with fast read/write speed will work.

e.g. I've got 2 flash drives a 2GB Sandisk Titanium and a PNY1GB
The Sandisk has faster specs, but it does not work while the PNY does.
