Download End It All. It kills processes which you don't choose to protect. Watch out of what you're doing though, don't kill like, explorer.exe or such programs running. :X

WOW really? Maybe the manufacture installed bunch of useless add-ons? It was like with my Sony Vaio laptop, i simply called SONY for a winxp ORIGINAL CD(since the cd key is attached at the bottom) and re-installed it.

Clean Windows Vista has 3x processes. Clean XP has 2x. Vista can run with <20 processes, but you have to disable themes and stuff. If you think the client OS's are bad, switch to a server OS like Windows Server 2008. It's optimized for efficiency, but not for looks.

if you end process explorer.exe you can always re-run it by opening task manager and click new task... and type in explorer.exe
