I agree with you here. After I used Vista, I only found that it gets sluggish faster and I don't like the way that the directories are set up. In fact, on my brother's computer, who has 2gb of RAM, is shutting off every time he opens an application because of "superfetch" using so much RAM. I don't like superfetch at all. I also noticed I got better performance when I used XP for gaming than with Vista. I don't want you guys to shove facts in my face because I know what I know from experiences with Vista. I just plain don't like it and I'm sticking with my XP/Ubuntu dual boot. |
Your brothers computer shutting off is not the fault of superfetch, but rather his own.

The only things he runs is AIM, Internet Explorer, and maybe Pivot. How else do you explain his PC shutting off?

Overheating, maybe. Automatic system shutdowns are possible (user or system defined). Check the amount of RAM his computer uses (idling with 2GB of RAM, I only use 33%).
Gaming performance should be similar to XP if you get SP1.

Microsoft still sell XP because there is still a demand for it...
they do not sell new computers with it installed though

They still sell XP- but only for ultra small laptops, such as EEE and aspire one, as long the pc has maximum 1gb ram (damn microsoft >_>)
And btw, Vista are meant for new systems, computers that are strong enough to _run_ Vista, not for pentium 4 owners that complains "Vista too slow, buhuu, it eats my 512mb ram T_T"

Like every other MS OS vista sucked when it was realeased. But most things are fixed and it is really much more better then xp, at most points. But with that it also require alot more ram. If you have alot of ram there is no need to run xp really. Trust me I know what I'm talking about really.
Vista pawnz!
I mean you gotta remember when xp came out. Haha.

In July 2008, Microsoft introduced a web-based advertising campaign called "The 'Mojave Experiment'", that depicts a group of people who are asked to evaluate the newest operating system from Microsoft, calling it Windows 'Mojave'. Participants are first asked about Vista, if they have used it, and their overall satisfaction with Vista, on a scale of 1 to 10. They are then shown a demo of some of the new operating system's features, and asked their opinion and satisfaction with it on the same 1 to 10 scale. After respondents rate "Mojave", they are then told, that they were really shown a demo of Windows Vista. The object was to test "A theory: If people could see Windows Vista firsthand, they would like it." According to Microsoft, the initial sample of respondents rated Vista an average of 4.4 out of 10, and Mojave received an average of 8.5, with no respondents rating Mojave lower than they originally rated Windows Vista before the demo."[112]
The 'Mojave Experiment' has been criticized, though, for attempting to appear as a scientific study while not actually providing the participants with a full computing experience and only selecting a small portion of their responses in the videos.[113]
Gotten straight from Wikipedia. It seems many people hate Vista just because probably one celebrity said he hated it or something. In terms of phsycology, people will conform to the majority of people and thus jump on the bandwagon. It's the same as trying to like someone that you know you hate. If people keep hearing that it sucks, they will say that it sucks.

MUCH
But its require for more ram makes people not like it.
The main reason people dont like it is you cant hack games on it. Vista kinda protects games as it is made for gaming. |
Thus why it gets such a bad rep on hacker forums such as CEF XD

I beg to differ. I have a laptop with 1GB of RAM and it runs vista just fine to suit my needs.

I have Windows Vista with 2gb and it usually never uses more than 1.5gb... Unless im using Crysis, then it uses almost all 2gb ( ALMOST! ).
