Ok guys heres whats up with my precious lappy of super awesomeness atm
He's been acting kinda weird for maybe... A year now?
It started off with the fan going SUPER LOUD... The thing is the fan doesn't run at idol speeds... My lappy is an acer aspire and I've searched the interwebz for solutions and all I have found is to tinker with the bios... Whcih I don't like doing -_-;
The fan only seems to run in emergency situations (being 60+C). If you guys know any fixes HELP APPRECIATED
Next up lappy has been running kind of slow (especially scanning). I have got about 6G space in each drive (I assume that is sufficient) and have checked for viruses. I have optimized my registry aswell. I tried to DeFrag. Successfully 'DeFrag'ging my C:/ Drive but it seems to hang on my D:/. I have tried using both 3rd party apps and the usual xp 'DeFrag'ger
Again help appreciated
Last... Small question. How can I check if I'm overclocking my CPU???
I run optimizers and have max performance on. Is that doing all this?
I've tried tinkering with Virtual Memory.
If any info (specs etc.) are required don't hesitate to ask ^^
ANY help appreciated
Cheers ~CJ

have you formatted in the last year? for one of your problems - where the laptop's been going slow - could be because of installing too much junk, which can build up from years of running a computer and not formatting. formatting could fix that problem at least, if you know what you're doing.

Lol. My computer does that too. It's because there is too much dust in your control tower, and the fan can't exhaust the heat good enough. So then the CPU gets heated, and voila emergency fan turns on.
Solution: Clean out your Control Tower.

Thanks guys... I need to find my XP boot disk... I can't seem to find it. When I do I'll shove all the important things on my external and reformat (Its been 2 years =O). Can I ask you... How do I clean the control tower?

also make sure, like drkgodz mentioned, to check for dust in your case. it's possible that your main fan could be clogged with dust and not able to spin.

to clean it, open up your cover and you could blow air or gently grab the dust off of the fan(s) and other places where you see dust.

Cool... I'm starting to see some speed now. I also went through with a tooth pick to get dust on the inside of the plastic.
Can anyone answer me this question. I know this is OT and in the wrong section but...
In AirRivals when I'm looking for a pointer I get up to where I find the most probable pointer. Scan it in 4 bytes, HEX... NO VALUES. So 2 bytes? Too many values (like over 100). Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong.
So if anyone can give me any more tips to tune up my speed OR answer the above question I will give you big thanks

you should ask the gamehacking section, but aren't pointers for pointing to addresses? like the value of a pointer is an address.

I first blow all the dust loose, and then carefully clean it out with a vacuum cleaner, making sure not to hit anything. I clean it once a month, you'll be surprised how much dust is in it.
