I've never played it before, someone let me in on this.

but if you still havent played, here is a summary of what i think:

You choose an hero

You can buy items with gold you get at regular intervals or killing things

There are 3 lanes through which each team's creeps follow(the ghouls, necromancers, etc)

There are creeps that you can kill in the forest, you gain gold from it, they respawn(trees respawn too)

You destroy their towers in their lane(s) to get to their base

You destroy the Ancient to win

There are all kinds of Warcraft maps, the only type of 'normal' maps are the ones you play in campaign.

The point of DotA is to rush lanes, destroy towers, and destory their ancient, and as many heroes as possible along the way. In real Warcraft 3, you control an entire army, rather one guy, there are no towers that you must kill, and the point is to kill the enemy base and not an ancient. Also there are no heroes.
