I agree.
With $3000 being you budget, a Q9450 looks like the best (unless you don't want to use all $3000. Pair it with a P45, X38, or an nForce 700-series motherboard.
For the TigerDirect vs. Newegg argument, I would say whichever offers the better price. Search around for the best price on the parts you're going to use in your build. You should search around other sites like MWave as well. But at $3000, I doubt $10-$50 in savings would make much of a difference.
Basically, you should get an HD4870 (or two), or wait a while until nVidia offers something better to compete against the HD4870, a few GB of RAM (G. Skill, Kingston, Corsair, OCZ, or Mushkin), and 7200/10000 RPM hard drive (variable sizes).

get a ati radeon 4850, a e8500, and a single card mobo with a mid tower case. $800-1000.

just add a hard drive, case and a video card.
I would recommend you wait a while for the 4870x2 to come out and buy that.
If you don't like Ati then you can change the mobo and get gtx280. But remember to wait for the 4870x2 to come out because it will lower the prices of other GPUs.
