linux is free. you can download a version off of the internet and burn to a bootable CD. ubuntu is a popular one, but it might be hard for you to get used to, it's a lot different to windows. and there's not much point in having an OS without a GUI, like DOS. if you're computer's that slow then it's time for an upgrade.

Linux, but I'm not the kind of person who just goes crazy about computers so I like the GUI of Vista.
