Get a good Intel based board, and a pair of 4850's, or a pair of 4870's if your budget allows. |
You are the only person I have have ever heard with this opinion. Why ATI instead of nVidia? |
That's because of all the nVidia fanboys from the 8xxx era.
Because you'll get better image quality, and better price/performance. It's no secret, ask anyone who's used both brands and they will unanimously agree that ATi has far better image quality.
The 4870 is only a few % slower than the 280, not even a noticeable amount. The better image quality and far lower price tag you will notice however. Add in the fact that ATi's multi-card implementation is far superior, and you'll understand why nobody is buying nVidia during this product generation.
By the time you buy it, the 4870X2 should be out, which will walk all over anything nVidia has to offer, and I hear it's going to have a low price tag to boot.
Not to mention if you're considering multi-card solutions, Intel of course has the best chipsets, and that's what you need to run Crossfire.

its been proven that the quality and fps both beat nvidias offerings (4850 vs. 9800 gt) with a far lower price tag (4850=$200, 9800=$300?)
