LOL, I doubt he would actually get a Skulltrail-platform computer. They don't scale well at all. Mostly just for bragging rights.

You'll need 2 Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9775 LGA771 processors, at over $1000 each...

Man that thing is like a beast. Putting crappy processors in that is like wearing Michael Jordan's shoes down to the beach after a storm. You need 2 big wallet sized processors... Core 2 Extreme QX9775 processors, which operate at 3.2 GHz < got that from wikipedia.

Edit: I also just read that this thing got up to 6 Ghz on 8 cores with phase cooling.

Overpriced garbage that will perform poorly in it's targeted market.

It's clearly marketed at gamers, what game will utilize 4 threads, let alone 8? Then throw in the poor latency of FB-DIMMS, and you have a computer that will perform equal to or worse than something of half the price.

Besides, it'll be obsolete in November when Nehalem comes out.

Source engine fully supports that.. And so does CryEngine 2

Um, an assload?

Anything based off the latest Source engine
Anything off CryEngine2
Anything off Unreal Engine 3
Anything off the updated ID Tech4 engine (ie Quake 4 and beyond)
Anything off the MT-Framework engine (Capcom games)
... and 2132138 other titles.

Hell, even Quake 3 will try to spawn multiple threads if you use \r_smp

But what game would actually need it..?

Well, you didn't get the point.

They don't need it..

It's simply to get more performance from your quad core processor.

As far as I know, the CryEngine2 is only dual threaded, and won't utilize all the power of quad cores. I've always thought Crysis to be the spearhead of gaming technology. Mainly, the applications that support more than 2 threads are picture editing and video editing software.

I bought the quad-core because i would be ahead of the crowd. That means i could probably keep my computer for a long time. I probably will never upgrade my processor. Even if they make an octcore or something like that.

They have octocores (Dual Quads), just not for normal computers.

This was later fixed in a patch.
