|
|
Here is what I know.
my computer has 2 memory slots, both full, it is a desktop.
it takes DDR1 PC2700 RAM.
Do I have everything I need to know to go to a store and purchase RAM?
P.S. I looked over the stickies and it gave helpful information, but I'm just double checking, I just don't want to look stupid if I go to the store
P.S.S. I have a friend that built his own computer that knows how to install the RAM, so that isn't a problem.

If you're comfortable about buying a new motherboard, you should, because DDR2 at the moment is mainstream (is it not?) and it's very cheap.
But, you MIGHT have troubles finding DDR-1 RAM as it's very old (is it not?), I tried searching on staticICE and a few results came up.
Although, if you already have a store in mind and you know that they have DDR-1 RAM in stock, make sure it's available, contact the store before you go and get your RAM!
Haha. Installing RAM is VERY EASY. It's basically just aligning the RAM to the RAM slots, and looking at the notches on the RAM and the RAM slots on the motherboard to make sure you're placing it correctly into the slot. You don't want to short-circuit anything, and so YOU should have no trouble installing the RAM by yourself or having to contact your friend to install it for you!
Hope I helped and good luck!

DDR1 is old.
Although it's easy to find stores that sell it, I do not recommend it.
As firefox said, if you feel comfortable to buy a new MB, you should.

But thanks for the help.

Yeah you do. You can buy bigger storage versions of the DDR you have right now and replace it with the ones you have to get up to 2 gigs.

| If you really don't need anymore you shouldn't buy it. But if you have two slots, is there already one in the first slot, cause otherwise I'd buy two

| Open the case first and make sure you have an empty slot. Otherwise you're good.

Well you just said you had full slots already. Are they like 256 MB sticks each or something? I think it would be better if you are getting 1 gig to buy two 512 sticks, because they are cheaper if they break to replace.

They're both full but I'm gonna take out one to put in a 1gig stick.

I just have like 100$ laying around, I might actually buy 2 1gig sticks.

How much RAM do you already have? For most uses, and even some gaming, 1GB of RAM is enough for Windows XP. You'll want to try to get a pair of RAM DIMMs, so you can dual-channel it.
If you have $100, you might want to invest a little bit on other computer components, like a new graphics card or hard drive.

I need a better graphics card, but I need so much more information to buy one <_< it seems too difficult.
I currently have 447/512 mb RAM. I want 2 gigs so I can finally run maplestory + opera without completely freezing.
Could you link me to where I can find more info about graphics cards?
price/what I need to know to buy/specs would be very helpful

Google or staticICE
Note: staticICE is only available for Australia and New Zealand
