I finished learning the basic syntax of the C++ language and I would like some recommendations as to what kinds of little programs I should try to make first. It shouldn't be anything overly complicated, but not just a "Hello World" type thing either.

Are you learning visual C++ or just C++?
I'm learning visuall and i would practice with GUI. Try making a simple game =o. Tic-tac toe and make the computer apponinent pick random spots :p

While I can't really give you a program suggestion as I have hard times thinking of things to make myself, I would suggest that if you want to do something to test your skills, make something that uses a little bit of everything you have learned so far. Try to use everything you have learned to make sure you are fully understanding things and such.

Hmm I'd like to make something that "talks" to you. Like, "How is your day going?" and then based on the response, say something back ( to practice if,else if, else loops). However, I'd have to limit the responses down to 3 or so choices like 1. OK 2. BAD 3. GOOD . Would this be a good idea?

It sounds like you're off to a good start on making your first console application.

And you said that you wanted to make the program to test your ability to use IF's. I would say that the example that you described with the "1. OK, 2. Bad, etc" would work better with case switches rather than IF's.

How do you attempt to attempt? Your signature confuses me.

Sounds neet a program that interacts with you.
Like Mr.nwongfeiying said there 2 ways of choosing , the if else then (if statement) and the case and i find working with case the best on C# but if statement on C++. Sort out for yourself what you want to use and whats the easyest for you. Smile

Do something that you have no idea how to do. Then brainstorm how it would work and figure out the API to do it...As an intro to win32 i usually say go with a process lister. The api is Process32First and Process32Next. Use these in a loop and output the process to the console / a listbox if you do win32 GUI yet
