I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 and my graphics have been all shitty. This has happened to me before on windows when I would play games. I think it's because the graphics are so demanding on the hardware, that maybe my video card isn't good enough. I'm using a nVidia GeForce 6200. Pretty sure that's bad xD. Anyway, here's a pic.

I had that on my old ATI 9800Pro whenever i played a little longer...

The cause was that the card was getting hot much too fast.
For me it helped to replace the old cooler with a new one, bought from Arctic Cooling for about 10-15 €

It also could be that the card just is fucked up.. dunno

Oh yeah and it's only when I run firefox and programs like CCSM, screenlets manager, and emerald.

Let me be the first to say... Almost all programs that are used with Linux are 0.x.x or 1.x.x... And that means there are bugs!

The best thing you could do (if it is software related) is report the bug when it occurs...

You could always use one of the thousand programs to change your fan speed!

too bad none have linux support.

Also, he is using VMware... so it is probably VERY possible...

Uh, changing the fanspeed is usually a 3rd party tool kind of deal, NTUNE might let you do it, but it's probably the biggest piece of shit ever. ATI sure as shit doesn't let you do it outside of 3rd party stuff.

If you're using VMware, just set the fanspeed in windows

Controlling the fan is probably done at low level rather than drivers, so I wouldn't count on it working if you're trying to do it with WINE or some shit. Drivers are largely different too, so controlling the fan from driver level would probably fail as well.

Lol. I'm not running it on VMWare or Virtual PC. I'm Dual-Booting so I can run Compiz and Emerald and make my computer smexi and easier to use.
