Notepad++ doesn't contain a compiler, it's just an editor. With that, you can use command line compiling.

| Visual Studio 2008 with edited colors. It's a pretty good compiler. Generates very small and efficient applications. Only bad thing is that Visual Studio can't compile for Linux and Mac, but only <5% of computers run those OS so I don't really care.

Same as other people here, Visual Studio 2008 with a cool color scheme (dark gray background, bright/vibrant text).

Think you are a bit off on that number. On the home user end, yes, Windows is the more used operating system. But as an administrator, network engineer, graphics designer, film editor etc. Windows is far from the more popular used OS.

You can but not in the express edition. Express edition lacks a resource editor and MFC support. But Professional edition has all these features.

I used Code::Blocks. It's open source, so its efficient. It works better than devcpp with resource files, and it is actively being developed. Not only that, but I can use the same ide on linux.

So that's why...
I use Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition because it's free, first of all, and secondly, it was the first one I found while I was searching for a compiling 1-2 years ago.
I'm going to have to look into those color schemes after I get a new laptop. And the notepad++ doesn't sound so bad. I'll research Eclipse since that's what Dark Byte uses.
And lastly, my comment on Dev-C++ is that when I first started programming, it confused the hell out of me so I didn't like it.

First off, it doesn't take up that much memory. Even when I had half a gig of ram I still could run it without lag. Second, screw money, I get everything illegally. And I use VC++ 2008 Express.

My computer is from 2002 with 776 MB of ram and 27 GB of hard drive space. It's so bad that it makes me want to shoot myself.
The charger is also fucked up. I'm just hoping for a new laptop soon and an external hard drive to back up my files before it's too late.

| My favorite IDE is RadASM, its easy to modify it to support other programming languages, and it has a nice, simple, resource editing feature.
