I have this annoying problem that I can't turn my system into standby mode. If I get out of it, my C:\ Drive is always gone and also missing from the device manager.
my c: drive is the only parallel IDE hard disk I have, the rest is SATA2. The DVD writer which is also parallel IDE still works though.
I have installed windows on D: , so at least the system keeps working, but I have a lot of files I often use on my c: drive and miss them after a standby.
So, anyone got an idea what it is? Missing driver and that it just works because C: contains my bootloader ? Or a crappy power management problem?

I wouldn't say it's a power management problem. Maybe the drive is going bad? I have a shit PC at work and while the disk is in use it turns off and on while making clicking noises. How big is the drive?

Have you tried any troubleshooting?
At the very least you could figure out if it is a hardware or software problem by reformatting it. (backing up data of course)

what windows OS are you running? i read about Vista sometimes doing that and the problem seems very similar to yours, found here.

I think your HDD cannot spin up after Standby mode.
I think is about time the HDD may breakdown.

I'm sorry but i couldn't stand it, what is Windows OS ?
You should of either ask What Windows or What OS.
Windows = OS
OS = Windows, MAC, Linux, etc.. (DOS?)

no...what i said makes sense. windows vista is an OS, windows xp home is an os, windows professional, windows 98, windows nt... they're all OS's.
if you want me to put it into simple terms, which version of Windows are you running, how's that? and i'm pretty sure that DB would know what i mean.

It may have to do with the cooldown or temp.
If I go into standby less than 5 minutes, I still have my C: drive. But if I do several hours, my disk is gone and have to reboot

What temperature readings do you get at full load?

Try opening the side where you see all the hardware, and put aside a fan there on the maximum cooling speed, stay 7min and leave feedback.
