Hey guyz
I'm planning to build this PC.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66 GHz $349
WD Raptor 300GB 10,000 RPM $377
Antec 900 $160
Logitech Keyboard G15 $87
Logitech Laser G9 $90
4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2/DDR3
I have chosen these parts which i really want to buy.
But I haven't yet chosen a video card.
These are my choices
1GB 9800GX2 Generic / Leadtek / Gigabyte/Asus $645/669/682/682
1GB Generic 8600GT /Asus 9600GT/Asus 8800GT $105/229/265
8800GTX 768mb
These are my questions.
1.What power supply should i get, i want it to be black, 750w or near and i want the cables to be plugged in not loose.I think it is called modular, like the Ultra X3 1000W
2.Are the main components i've chosen good, what should i replace.
3.What video card should i choose
4.Is Cruical Ballistix DDR2/DDR3 good and where can i get these in Australia
5.I am thinking of getting a 790i Mobo, where can i get this cheap in australia.

You wont need 750watts, My computer consumes much more power than yours and i am running stable on a 550w.
Save some cash on that one, i recommend an Antec TruePower Trio 550w PSU to go with your Antec case, it will recognize your case fans, and will adjust the fans according to the temperature in your case!
(I have an Antec 900 BTW ^_^, LOVE IT)

Actuall now that I look at it, yours will suck up more power lol
I have:
E8400 CPU
2gig HyperX memory
550W TruePower Trio PSU
Abit IP-35 PRO mobo
1 generic optical drive
8800GT OC'ed gpu
All running on a 550W psu... Get a 600W and you will be set.
Make sure It's good quality though;

For your Power Supply, get a Corsair HX-620!
Don't get the 9800GX2, there's a new one coming out this month. It also depends what you want ...
If you're a high-end gamer, try to get an SLI board and use SLI.
If you're a moderate gamer, try getting 2 x 8800GT's or 1 would be sufficient enough.
Do NOT get DDR3, it's no much difference from DDR2, DDR2 is still much of a better value!
It's expensive and therefore overall, it's totally not worth it. The performance difference is neglectible, so go with DDR2.
And maybe this would give you more in-depth information:
Please go to staticICE for shop price comparisons all over Australia!
Type this in the search dialog, "790i state:vic"; without the quotes of course.
Good luck and hope I helped!

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66 GHz $349 - Unless you really need that 10x multiplier, there's no reason to get a Q6700 over a Q6600
WD Raptor 300GB 10,000 RPM $377 - I personally don't need a 10,000 RPM drive, because a 7,200 RPM drive suits me just fine. The biggest difference is read/write time (how long it takes to load a game), if it's really that important, get it.
Antec 900 $160 - Good case, but Australian prices
Logitech Keyboard G15 $87 - My $10 keyboard works great at gaming, seriously, if you still think it's worth getting, then go ahead
Logitech Laser G9 $90 - My 3 button wireless mouse (Microsoft Wireless Mouse 2000) is awesome, and I only have to change batteries every 6 months
4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2/DDR3 - You don't want to get DDR3, it's way too expensive, and the performance difference is minimal. I would recommend Kingston HyperX over Crucial Ballistix
1GB 9800GX2 Generic / Leadtek / Gigabyte/Asus $645/669/682/682
1GB Generic 8600GT /Asus 9600GT/Asus 8800GT $105/229/265
8800GTX 768mb
From the list above, obviously, the 9800GX2 is the most powerful, but the 8800GT/9600GT provides the most value. The GT200-series NVIDIA graphics cards are coming out in a few days, they should outperform the 9800GX2.
1.What power supply should i get, i want it to be black, 750w or near and i want the cables to be plugged in not loose.I think it is called modular, like the Ultra X3 1000W
A 500W - 600W PSU should suit you fine.
2.Are the main components i've chosen good, what should i replace.
Already answered above, also you need a motherboard
3.What video card should i choose
Answered above
4.Is Cruical Ballistix DDR2/DDR3 good and where can i get these in Australia
Answered above, but I don't know where you can get it from
5.I am thinking of getting a 790i Mobo, where can i get this cheap in australia.
I would not recommend the 790i, as it only accepts DDR3. I would get the EVGA 750i SLi.

I have an oc'd CPU pulling ~185w of power, 2x oc'd 3870's, 4GB RAM, and 2 hard drives running on a 550w PSU, don't buy into the overpowered PSU hype.
Definitely wait on the video cards, a new series is coming out very soon, in fact ATi's launch on the 18th.
DDR3 is overpriced and doesn't bring any tangible benefit, unless you plan on doing some insane OCing stick with DDR2.

Try maxishine's website. He's one of the most famous Australians gamers or computer experts that I know of. Look around his forum as well.

| Next gen video cards will be out soon, getting an 8800 would be retarded now if the 4850 speeds hold true.

1.What power supply should i get, i want it to be black, 750w or near and i want the cables to be plugged in not loose.I think it is called modular, like the Ultra X3 1000W - Why do you want some much? I thought just americans were wasteful... You would probably be fine with a 650w... I have a 650w and i have A LOT of head room for adding more shit.
2.Are the main components i've chosen good, what should i replace. - Good
3.What video card should i choose - Not totally sure, but the 9800GX2 1gb should be good... Might cause some bottlenecking, idk
4.Is Cruical Ballistix DDR2/DDR3 good and where can i get these in Australia. - Find someone (a friend) who lives in the USA, to buy from newegg and then ship to you.
5.I am thinking of getting a 790i Mobo, where can i get this cheap in australia. - Dunno... Also instead of the4 9800GX2, get like 3x 8800GT

Thank you guys for your answers.
I think for the power supply i will get the Corsair HX 620W
But there is 1 problem, the antec 900 case has the PSU at bottom, and the HX 620W Fan is at the bottom, does that mean they will be incompatable or will it just not use the full cooling power?
I will also think about the XFX 780i seeming as the only difference between 790i and 780i is the ddr ram type. Also 780i is approximtely $200 cheaper.
Bam! thank you for your answer, but what does bottleneck mean?

Does the Antec 900 have ventilation on the bottom of the case?
If not, try getting the CM 690 or something similar ...
Although, yes, partially it doesn't really matter ...
And great choice for your Power Supply, Corsair HX-620 owns!
Bottleneck is a term used to describe a component that limits your systems full potential.

You could mod it so you can flip it so you can flip it upside down...
Actually, i think it doesn't matter if it is facing up or down. If it does, you probably just need to make small incisions.

Q6700 is pointless, get a Q6600 or Q9450
I wouldn't bother with a raptor. AWESOME YOU SHAVE A SECOND OFF YOUR BATTLEFIELD 2 LOAD TIMES. Just get a 250gb for like $80, maybe another couple and RAID.
You don't need a 83129w PSU.
DDR3 is retarded at this point in time.
You're an idiot if you drop nearly a $100 on a keyboard.
HURR laser mouse for gaming. Mx518, get this.
