He should 'probarbly' decide on his own.

There are DirectX10 patches in XP for most games that support it.

But he asked whether Vista/Windows.

Vista is an edition of Windows.

I'd stick with XP until SP2 is released or the Windows 7 is released; which ever comes first.

I'd stick with XP, as you can pull a few more FPS, which is just the edge that's needed to play Crysis on high settings. You can also do configuration hacks that will let DX9 simulate ultra-high on DX10.

From the specs of the Asrock, it looks good, but I don't know about how good the company is itself. I really like my GA-P35-DS3L (EP35 edition is the same price now), it overclocks well, and goes beyond its factory specifications.

For the CPU, get an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600.

Asus-fanboi?

P5K3 Deluxe

- Are you going to be using DDR2 (667MHz ~ 1066MHz) or DDR3 RAM (800~ 1333)?
- This motherboard only supports DDR3
- One less USB connector (One connector supports two USB ports)

P5KC

- This supports both DDR2 and DDR3 RAM
- ONE less PCIe slot
- ONE less SATA connector slot
- TWO less Chassis Fan connector slots
