So when you bought the computer, it only had 18.5 Gigs of HDD storage and then your friend re-formatted it and now it only has 9.3 gigs? _________________

I think he meant that. I quite hate reformatting. It reduces the size of the storage sometimes. _________________

Well now he's asking how to fix it. I never encountered that problem when I'm reformatting. _________________

the rest of your hdd space is probably in that "New Volume" drive. you're friend must have split your hdd into partitions. _________________

Thats exactly what was done....
Also, on some drives if you do not install a driver that came with the hard drive it will do this very thing as well. But in this case you see all the partitions in the screen shot.
So all that was done is a small partition for windows and the rest is a spare space. |

| He could've splitted it or maybe he didn't really "clean" your hard drive. He could've just install windows on a separate partition? |

What the hell, go back to the cave you came from. Reformatting NEVER reduces storage capacity, unless you fuck up the installation process and somehow manage to put 20 copies of the OS onto your HDD.
Reformat the partition(s), if there is more than one just delete all partitions and create 1 new one. Install the OS onto that one. _________________
