What's an Ethernet Controller? Would I need it to connect to the internet?

And to clarify you would need it to connect to the internet via cable. But even for desktops you can get wireless adapters and connect via wireless router but it is much slower this way depending on how many people use your cable.

| Yes, you need an Ethernet adapter to connect to your modem. While there are other options like USB, I can't recommend them, and most motherboards have an Ethernet jack anyway, it basically looks like a bigger version of a phone jack. Don't even consider wireless unless you're using a laptop.

An ethernet is just something you use to connect to the internet. It's usually a blue thick cable with a white tip that you use to connect to usually the back of your computer and there's like a tab on top that allows it to lock into place or for easy releasing from the computer. It's a little bigger then a phone jack, but if you don't have a modem, it will take up your phone line instead. Most motherboards nowadays have two of them, side by side, which allows for greater internet connection. And I'm pretty sure you are on a laptop right now and you just bought it. Usually ethernet is faster then wireless because... that's just common sense, a hard direct line compared to something going through the air where stuff like microwave's and radio signals can fuck up. But stick with wireless on a laptop because ethernet need a cable, which limits where you can sit.
