you know how the heatsinks have an expiry date?is tehre anything bad if you use it past its date?. cause like i have a 2yr old paste expiry date and was wondering if it would still work.

No, it should be fine for years... and i'm talking many many years, not just 2.
Although its best to freshen-up every now and then. Every 2-3 years might be a good time to actually clean-it down with isopropyl alcohol and re-apply some clean paste. Personally though, 2-3 years never goes by with a pc in my possession. It'll either be passed on or just sold. I upgrade regular, but every 2 years you should maybe consider it
In a nutshell, don't worry its fine. So long as your CPU core temps are ok.

The expire date more than anything usually means what the company is willing to personally vouch or in some cases garantee the paste will efficiently last for. It does not mean it cannot last longer or go bad earlier but simply what the company is willing to promise its most efficient time of use for. It is like speeds of cpu's, memory, and video cards. The factory defaults are just what the companies are willing to promise the hardware will run by without problems. It does not always mean that it cannot go higher without doing damage. (For those of you who have no clue it is fine to OC most memory. Look it up anywhere there is no such thing as an actual memory stick 'DDR2' that is made with a speed greator than PC2-6400. Any DDR2 made higher than that is simply a PC2-6400 overclocked and tested by the manufacturers and labled with higher speeds.)

I would have considered myself an extreme gamer at one point, and nothing has failed on me with huge temps sometimes. The paste is alright, and the heatsink isn't exactly gonna melt

thanks for the info. i was talking about the paste xD it was kinda late and i couldn't see what i was typing. but is it bad for me to apply 2yr old past expire date paste?

well unless you game very much, the paste won't really matter that much. But in order to take care of your computer, it is advised to put some thermal paste on. It doesn't cost much, maybe 15 bucks for a tube of it. A tube is good for like 5 or 6 uses, so that would set you for 10 years. Just remove the heat-sink, clean up the processor and the bottom of the heat-sink with a towel and add new paste onto the heat-sink.

Just trying to remove the residue with a dry cloth is not enough.
If a fresh coat is to be applied the previous application should be removed as fully as possible with what I recommended above, Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. 60% pure or higher is best. It really is good stuff. You can also water it down as a side note, and use it alongside a micro-fibre cloth to clean your LCD monitor

I'm just wondering because I know for every other electronic that I have. Does overclocking void warranty? And I didn't think using water

Overclocking usually voids the warranty for most computer parts, except for a few companies (such as EVGA).
