No, the Core 2 Quad Q6600 does not suck. It can hold up against the E8400 in games (a few FPS difference), and I'm guessing it's because of the clock speeds. And you can easily overclock the Q6600 (on stock cooling and voltages) to 3.0GHz, where it should outperform the E8400 in most applications.

so..
2 cores with 1Ghz each would be better then 1 core with 2 Ghz

True for the Intel Core micro architecture vs. NetBurst. But the application has to support all the cores/multi threaded.
