... The Q6600 is only $220, a 3.0GHz C2D is $200.

There are people out there that always want to buy the best for everything. I actually think a dual core is good enough for the average adult and teenager. A lot of games besides really recent ones don't even use all 4 cores. And seriously what are you going to be doing that will destroy your computer to the point of having to use 4 cores? It saves energy and like hundreds of dollars.

I'll use it to play Maplestory.

Like I just said. Maplestory doesn't need 4 cores >_>. It can work perfectly fine even doing like 50 zakum runs together with just 2 cores.

And if your very broke, you could risk your single core computer, over clock it, and hopefully it doesn't blow up. I can play Half-Life 2 on a AMD 1.6GHz (yes, that crappy), and it works fine. Only slightly longer load times. The video card was crap too.

there is such a thing as too much power. It all depends on what your using your computer for. If your not using the full capability of your hardware then its just a waste of money for nothing. Simiple things like typing up documents, basic internet surfing, or even just minimal entertainment like listening to music.....seriously a quad core will not out perform a dual core here because it will not be using its full capacity as I already said and neither will the dual core depending on what one you get. Computers=many variables and even exceptions

there is such thing as price to performance ratio however, where quad core shits on its dual core counterparts.

1 core = not the best
2 core = better
3core = better than the last
4 core = best
x core = greatest

3 core makes software problems better keep multipling by 2
so ...
1 core = slow
2 core = twice as fast
4 core = twice times better then 2 core

more cores need more energy

maybe for hacking you might need 2 cores... but yeah seriously, buying a 5000 dollar computer just to play maplestory is a big ole waste.

Currently I'd stick to the latest model of core(2)duo because the first model of quad sucks (2.4 GHz), so... you do the math

but more cores will give better performance for multi tasking
so..
2 cores with 1Ghz each would be better then 1 core with 2 Ghz

Hell I played maplestory with one engine.... 2.3 GHz AMD. I can't play any new games, but it works for WOW and I have a 360 so thats where I play the new games.
