boot to the recovery console from a windows disk and copy it like that.

or just do it from a linux distro. ubuntu has a live cd that you can boot straight to, and it's straightforward.

If all you are missing is hal.dll, you could boot from an ubuntu live cd and download + replace.

Are you not paying attention to him?

Okay let me give you a thorough walk through!

1) Download Ubuntu (it is an operating system)

2) Burn it to a CD

3) Put the CD in

4) RESTART! Now your computer will boot the CD! IT WILL NOT INSTALL OR ERASE ANYTHING!!!!

5) Now, when you are there, open up your hard drive...

6) Put in the USB

7) Extract the file from the USB to the desktop. Then move it to the correct place on the hard drive...

Another Operating system? It says it is Linux based and I use Windows XP Home Edition. PC is not compatible with Linux.

When you burn it to a disc, since Ubuntu (A popular Linux distro) is able to 'live boot' it can start up automatically, from the disc, without a need to install it on your hard drive.

When it loads from the CD, all you need to do is insert the USB with your copy of 'hal.dll' and then proceed to navigate to where it is supposed to be installed within your hard drives data.

It's either your video card driver, or you just haven't set it.

To set it, right click your desktop --> properties --> settings tab <> the 'screen resolution' area.
