I bought it in 2005 and I can play TF2 with no lag today.
How?

1. No porn (downloads), it's just pointless.
2. Get GFX and SFX Cards.
Mine had it's cards built in to the motherboard, which means my processor has to deal with the rendering and audio on top of the computer itself.
An actual card has a tiny processor built in that takes the load, so your main processor gets a lighter load.
3. Get more RAM, mine came with 512 and 200 goes to system stuff so I only had 300 for Apps etc.
I installed another 512 and that leaves me with 800 for running stuff, though you may want more if you're an avid gamer.
4. Update your processor.
Rather than buying a new computer, just get a better processor, saves you tons of cash and makes it good as a new computer each time.

In the end you basically end up switching everything out except the case and motherboard, and that leaves you with only being able to install what can comply with the motherboard. For that reason, when it gets old, sometimes it is better to just get a new computer.

Your method works but eventually you need to get a new computer.. It gets dirty. MOBO gets old also because newer stuff might not be compatible with it.

You can't do this forever, of course you have to get a new mb every 7 years or so, but if you need a quick fix then this is how it's done.

Streaming needs time to load sometimes. Downloads are there forever with no wait time with the exception of the initial download
