It looks like you will need to buy 1GB of RAM. If you buy from Newegg, then this looks good, or you can buy two of the 512MB sticks (slightly less prices).

2x1GB on that computer would not be well utilized. If you want 2GB of RAM, then the best thing to do is to get a new computer/upgrade most of the parts.

DDR2-400 RAM is hard to find, comparing to the variety of DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 RAM you can find.

What's the difference between 400, 667, 800 does it deal with the mother board?

400, 533, 667, 800 are all DDR2 RAM frequencies/speed. So, if you have a faster "speed", then generally your computer will be better than a computer with the same specifications, but slower RAM.

Your motherboard is the main deciding factor of what speed you use. Your motherboard has to support the speeds, otherwise, there is a low chance it will work. In this case, your motherboard only supports DDR2-400, and that's what you're stuck with.

DDR400 is DDR1 and comes in DDR2 form too, 533 is pc2-4200, 666 is pc2-5300 and 800 is pc2-6400, soley DDR2 forms.

The RAM can be expected to downclock should the board not support the speed reported by the SPD's. Its all down to the compatibility of the mainboard though.

I agree
no point in getting 2Gb, it won't be utilized especially running on 200mhz.
The system I'm running on now contains 2GB 667mhz which is crap for me.
The PC i am building is gonna be 4/8GB 800MHZ/1066MHZ

Get some better RAM, then up the voltage in the bios and decrease the latencies to 4-4-4-12, this way you don't lose certain aspects of performance by moving from 667 to 800. Best of frequency and latency Wink And 8 gb whats the point mate? Windows will only see up to a little over 3Gb on a 32-bit OS. Not to mention that 32-bit processes can only use up to 2gb each at a theoretical maximum.
And then you have the argument over what applications will be optimized for it and so on...

Yah i know Psyche but I want a future proof PC.
I might Run a 64-Bit OS
What are the problems in 64BIT?
Also can a Q6600 Use 8GB on 64bit or 32 bit?

Just compatibility thing thats all. Software-wise at present.
Yeah a Q6600 is 64-bit so no probs there. Just make sure the mobo with take that capacity of RAM.

Your specs are very confusing... I doubt you have 504MB of RAM, that doesn't make sense. Usually it's in powers of 2, as in 256, 512, 1024, 2048, etc. And you're stating two different processors, 2.99, and 3.0gHz...

Since he has onboard video, 8MB of his system RAM is allocated as video RAM so that's why it's an odd number.

Also, 3.0GHz is the model of the processor, 2.99 is the frequency it's operating at, due to a slightly slow FSB clock. It will happen on any system because of variations in motherboards, every clock generator can't be made perfect.

The performance difference from RAM latencies is extremely minimal.

The performance hit on running a divider is pretty minimal as well.

Remember that the ram speed is doubled, 400 would 1:1 800fsb.
