| Are you ever going to store something important? Raid 0 has a higher chance of data loss and if one drive fails, the data on the other is fucked. |

If either drive dies, all the data is lost. Now consumer RAID isn't very stable so there's also the chance of the array just up and corrupting, I've experienced that before.
If you have anything important, you MUST back it up if you use RAID0, though you should already be backing up anything important anyway. |

I have 2x 320GB 7200RPM HDD's, but im not sure if they r same brand.

1. Dont overclock your processor, it will last less long (especially on a quad core) and DONT overclcok at all WHEN YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE on overclocking, and you really sound like you don't.
2. Why 2x 160g? Better get 2 150g Raptors which are 1000rpm or just get a 320g 7200, two HDs suck at organizing.
3. Don't get DDR3, get DDRII pc6400 which is 800mhz, you won't notice the difference. It's even better to buy 4 1g sticks or when you have XP get 2 1g's and 2 512's. XP Only recognizes like 3100mb ram coz it fucks the remaining mb of the 4g. Vista however does utilize as much as possible (don't get Vista Home Basic, it can do even less than XP, get Home Premium or when you want to download an illegal version, get Ultimate)/ |

1. Yeah, I guess it will last less long. But mainly because of any voltage increases. I have my Q6600 at 3.0GHz with stock voltages (1.325v) and stock cooling, it runs well (>40 degrees idle). My point is that most people get a new computer/upgrade parts before spending the lifetime of their CPU, especially if it is overclocked (enthusiasts overclock more often than your regular PC user).
2. Maybe he already has the 2 hard drives, so he wouldn't need to buy anymore. I have 2 hard drives, and there is no problem with them. If you have difficulty organizing, well, that's mostly on your part.
3. I think the largest reason DDR3 isn't mainstream is its really high price. It's more worth it (especially at 1066MHz speed) to just overclock DDR2 RAM. DDR3 also has high latencies, but it also operates with lower
voltages. You don't need 4GB of RAM (unless you are doing intense video editing, content creating). Don't blame XP for not recognizing all 4GB, it's because you're comparing a 32-bit operating system (XP) with a 64-bit operating system (Vista) in this scenario.
As for RAID, it can let your hard drives do special things, but you'll need a RAID controller. For example, RAID 0 gives performance increases to the hard drives, but there is a higher chance of messing up your second hard drive because one of them died. RAID 1 is data backup, and it continues to RAID 6. You can also combine RAID (such as RAID 1+0).

8800GT GPU ($130)
750W PSU ($100)
3GB DDR2 RAM ($50)
GA-P35-DS3L Motherboard ($89)
Any generic DVD burner ($30)
Antec 900 case ($120)
WD Raptor 150GB ($170) and WD Caviar 500GB HDD, ($100) using the raptor as your main drive and the caviar as your storage drive
So, I'll estimate about $1000.
Really, you don't need $2000 to build a good computer these days.

Why the 8800gt? 8800gts is quite an improvement, and is even better than the 8800GTX 768mb at resolutions 1600x1200 and lower.

ON THE 4G CONTROVERSY: 64-bit XP and Vista can use approximately 17.2 billion Gs, but I wouldn't recommend using 64-bit anything at this point. 32-bit OS's, however, split your 4Gs of memory into 2G of application memory, and 2G of OS memory; the OS never uses 2 whole Gigs, so some memory is wasted, but your computer does recognize ALL FOUR GIGABYTES. This can be changed, as recommended by Microsoft, by adding four letters to your BOOT.ini file. By doing this you change your memory distribution ratio to 3:1 Gigs ( app:OS )
