Your specs are very confusing... I doubt you have 504MB of RAM, that doesn't make sense. Usually it's in powers of 2, as in 256, 512, 1024, 2048, etc. And you're stating two different processors, 2.99, and 3.0gHz...
http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_144.zip
download this, install, and open it.
find the PROCESSOR "NAME" and "PACKAGE" and reply with those
then tell us the MOTHERBOARD "MANUFACTURER" and "MODEL"
then we can find out exactly which memory type you need. Without this information, there's no way to tell which kind of memory will fit your computer. |

Some pre-built PC from the likes of Dell, HP, Compaq and such did sometimes come with wierd amounts, such as 192mb and other unusual ones. Its just the way they worked with the older DDR ram thats all.
Also, some cheaper unbranded sticks don't always like up to the right amount, which is most likely why he has 504 showing as opposed to nearer the 512mb joe. Elixir ram or infineon was notorious for this.
The final and most likely cause is because there is some onboard resource taking chunks of the RAM. Shared video memory for example. |

Your computer has 2 DIMMs, and one of them are probably already used up. The best setup (to me) is to add another 512MB of DDR2-400 (PC2-3200) RAM. The integrated 915 chipset graphics take up 8MB of RAM, so it's showing 504MB.
As for 2.99GHz and 3.0GHz, the frequency hovers, it's not static. So, if it's close, you can probably call it 3.0GHz. _________________

He might also have 2x256MB, since when I got my Dell they gave me 4x256MB for a grand total of 1GB.. _________________

If so, then LOLER will have to replace the 2 256MB sticks of RAM with 2 512MB sticks. _________________

Usually just one gig of RAM is pretty good for an XP anyways. So it's within your budget no matter what you buy. _________________
