Did you do any programming before? cas' i dont think "rubz" or whatever its called, would be a good starting language, i would say you should do C/C++, if that seems to hard, try Delphi

Ruby isn't a good pick of a programming language due to compatibility and power, although I am speaking with no knowledge of it - so I could be wrong.
If you only want to make games (for PC), and nothing else..
Use GameMaker
If you want to make games and applications, use Visual C# (with XNA) from the Microsoft website. You can also develop games for Xbox 360 via XNA like I do myself.
If you want to make games, applications, hacks, drivers, etcetera: use Visual C/C++ & ASM.
Never used Delphi, so I can't recommend that.

As far as i know, Delphi aint as good as C/C++/C#, but for me, it was a VERY good start , C++ seems pretty simple now

Ruby is a language that isn't hard to learn IMO. Not many syntax errors makes life easier with ruby but i suggest learning one of the main languages before moving here. Python will help assist later on with ruby IMO.

Compatibility with existing software.
Tt would be troublesome using DirectX / OpenGL from Ruby? But once again, I don't know much about Ruby - so I'm probably wrong, although it is an OOPL.
Anden100: IMO just means In My Opinion. lol

Ruby is growing really fast because the RubyOnRails framework.
There's no DirectX OpenGL compability with Ruby. Ruby is a script language, like PHP but far better (again IMHO) than php.
Its pretty easy to write DSL's in Ruby. really funny to develop
