What is shown in the picture is a .part file. When you're downloading something, until the download is completed, there will be a "filename.extension" file and a "filename.extension.part" file until the download is completed, where the .part file will disappear, as it is no longer needed.

You need to pay attention to where the download is going and open the "filename.extension" file, not the "filetype.extension.part" file.

Do you have a decent AV?

If so, I suggest restarting your computer into safe mode(with networking), doing a full scan with your AV, and trying to download something, such as HijackThis. If you can download in safe mode, then it's probably a trojan or something causing it.

If your AV finds something, good! You problem should be solved. If your AV doesn't find anything, however, reboot into normal mode. Try to download something (just download cheat engine or something). If you still can't download anything, run HijackThis, and post a complete log here. Someone should be able to help you.

If none of that works, hope to hell you have a reinstallation disk for whatever OS you're using, 'cause you'll probably need to reformat.

Both files go in the same directory, they are not seperated.

You're problem is most likely not codec-related, unless the package installed some crap as well that you're not aware of.

I'd suggest, checking out any programs that may be causing an issue, especially currently internet-enabled apps and anti-virus.

Then go to network connections and 'repair' your network adapter.
Follow it up with Start -> Run, type: "netsh winsock reset" and "netsh firewall reset".

Reboot the PC, turn off windows firewall if its re-enabled itself.
Go into your browser settings and reset advanced settings/network settings to default.

Then try again. If that fails but you can get on the internet other ways to download, such as using an alternate browser, re-install the one you are having problems with... firefox i'm guessing.

".extension" being the filetype variable; .exe, .jpg, .rar, .zip, .png, any of the tens of thousands of possible file extensions.

Re-install firefox.... and did you follow any of my above advice?

If we don't know what you've tried how can we help. You can't just post up 3 of the same message on every response.

I've had that issue of the .part file fully downloading but not opening...so work with me...Wink

Well in another thread I recommended that a codec package such CCCP would be a better alternative to K-Lite if you really 'need' a codec pack.
I've always had disastrous consequences with codec packages of the sort in the past. It is unlikely though that is the direct cause of the problem, but it honestly wouldn't suprise me Sad

If you've done all the above, i'm not sure what else to suggest at this time.
