You need to download a codec pack. I suggest the CCCP (combined community codec pack),. Google for it.
This isn't like all the other packs floating around, in that it doesn't destroy your pc or interfere with other apps that utilize audio/video.
This package will install the directshow filters necessary for you to playback the movie.

Yeah only problem is it can alter priorites of the codes in windows.
Certain games, probably effects older ones if i'm honest, can be effected by this, as they are forced to use alternate MP3 codes for example. Also it has been known for the K-lite mega pack for instance, to overwrite other codes entirely... just been more of a problem in general.
But that CCCP-pack is decent. Its updated all the time, backed by a decent userbase, who actually know what they are doing, and its very well optimized for different video & audio formats. Plus, at any time you can reset settings, remove options, integrate shell shortcuts and customize pretty much any of the codes too
My personal fave if you ask me for a decent codec pack that doesn't affect the stable running of your PC.

Thats not a problem with the actual file...just a downloading issue in general.
Are you using firefox or another alternative to Internet Explorer. I use firefox myself, coz it rocks :p anyway, that creates part files as temporary storage while its downloading, then it verifies the file (which is why you get a small pause after download) and then it renames it to (whatever it should be).exe.
Can you download any other file? That would confirm my suspicions.
Other than than, do you have any anti-virus running, or another app that may be causing an issue in the background?
