if i over my cpu from 3GHz to 5GHz would it be a smart idea to dip it in liquid nitrogen? _________________

Don't post stupid shit that you know you aren't going to do.
Besides, on some of the Intel 3ghz CPUs, you could probably get 5ghz still on air... |

All that's going to happen is your computer is probably going to shit itself and restart, and probably fail to POST if you actually set that in the BIOS.
Also, liquid nitrogen doesn't conduct electricity as far as I know, so I guess that sounds like a good idea. |

What I've seen people do is put it in a sort of container with a flat bottom, and use some silver 5 to transfer the heat good, and it works out alright.
Although I seriously doubt he's doing anything except making a useless thread. |

| 5Ghz with an intel that has a stock speed of 3Ghz... impossible. End. |

| It's possible. You'll just need the latest cooling, NetBurst (the only reason it stopped at ~3.8Ghz is because of temperatures)/Core 2 architecture chip (good overclockers?), and a lot of time to play with the overclock. |

A 2Ghz overclock is yet for me to see then, even on the Core2Duo's.
I highly, highly doubt it... |

Yeah technically the Arithmetic Logic Units run at twice the 'rated' speeds, within the netbust architecture anyway. Point made |

5GHz is not impossible, especially on a 45nm chip. I have a 1.6GHz 65nm chip running at 4.68 since you obviously aren't aware of what these Core 2 chips are capable of. It's not at all uncommon to see a 45nm running at 4.3-4.5 on air, so with liquid nitrogen it'd be child's play.
To the OP: you have no idea what you're doing, either you're just trolling, or are gonna blow up your system. You don't dip the board in it, you make a container for it that mounts on top of the CPU and then you pour the LN2 in it. You get an extreme overclock that lasts for a short period, then you're done, that's it. Not useful for anything other than e-penis. |

Extreme heat then extreme cold will crack your computer in two. Just buy some liquid cooling. _________________

QX9650 is proved to be able to clocked to 6ghz... While E8400 can reach an awesome 5.2~5.3ghz on AIR. _________________

o.O The E8400 can go that high? I thought they got around 4~4.5GHz on stock... (or are you talking about non-stock heatsink?) |
