I've read a lot about cable being faster than DSL, but now that I have it, it dosen't seem any faster, infact, it seems slower. With DSL I could download with 15 seeds at 100kb/s. With Comcast Cable I download with 20 seeds at 50kb/s. I never thought I want DSL more than cable. I know the problem is not just my computer because my sister's computer is also slower.

I hope you know that half the problem is seeds? And probably all those seeds have DSL or something making your download suck...
I have comcast, and my downloads reached as high as 2.xmb/s

It could be where you live? I live near Philadelphia (which has the comcast tower) so i think Comcast likes us around here ...
But if you live in like NW New York, your comcast probably sucks because of mountains and shit... I dunno...
It sort of works like cell phone reception.

| The difference between DSL and Cable is that cable is faster, but is affected by the amount of people using it at that time.

| Try downloading something directly instead of using p2p. I'm sure it will be faster, if not call Comcast.

^^ smartone is right....
You cant really decide how fast your internet is by p2p, since p2p adds another variable in (their ISP)

| Same Problem with my Internet. The Problem with mine was there are these splitters that needed to be on all the phones. But, the splitter wasnt on 1 phone in our house. And we lost our speed by half. We put a spliter on it and now its twice as fast.

It does not depend much on seeds, but on the seed to leecher ratio. 15 seeds with 3 leechers will download faster than 20 seeds with 5 leechers.
I have road runner (cable?) and with 1 seed that has a 1MB/s+ upload, and no leechers, I can max out my download speed of around 800KB/s.

no, it doesn't work like that at all.
Their upload speed = your download speed, it's as simple as that. Some dude might be a leecher because he has 99% of something, yet you might get 1mb/s off him.
3 seeders might give you better speed than 30.

You can't base your max download/upload speed off torrents, there are too many factors involved including what slovach put above.
You could try some speedtest websites instead to get a better idea, but remember even these vary for different reasons and are not an absolute figure. Try to perform the tests at different times... early in the morning is usually best across most ISP's as they are no longer getting killed by everyone downloading stuff :p
www.speedtest.net <-- quite an accurate one (pick a server close to you)
www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk <-- use this as a second bet
www.dslzoneuk.net <-- has a good speedtest and a decent rating system etc
Cable is usually lower latency... meaning lower ping times, partly due to the way that it avoids congestion at the telephone exchanges like standard ADSL would. Also, cable is sometimes more likely to be carried over a fibre connection before it reaches the ISP. Optical fibre obviously carries data at the speed of light, whereas an electrical cable carries data at approximately 2/3 the speed of light. Include that in with the extra equipment that ADSL lines have to pass through and you can rack up extra latency
Usually cable is the same as ADSL in speed. That is most dependant on your service provider more than anything. Also packages vary slightly with cable. They may state 10meg for cable whereby the equivelent ADSL package would be 8meg. Something just to bear in mind
Also, 8meg is not possible at all. Its a theoretical maximum should all overhead be removed from the figure. There has been numerous attempts to get ISP's to state 'real' values for broadband customers, but i'll only seen about 2 that actually tell the truth.
The 'actual' maximum for advertised 8meg ADSL broadband (Broadband MAX - Ipstream) is 7150Kb/s, or just over 7meg.
So if you get speedtest reults of about 6 to 6 and half meg consistently that actually isn't bad.
If you're able to get LLU at your exchange (local-loop-unbundling) then you can get more towards the 16-18meg range, if your lucky. Line quality and distance all comes into play though in determining your actual maximum.

Wow, it dosen't suck, I take it all back. When I download something normally, off Opera or Firefox, I download at 800kb/s.
