Here are some prerequisites:
*A Mobile Laptop
*Linux
*Aircrack
Now Put Linux on the Laptop. Install Wireless driver. Install Aircrack. Use it. (1000s of guides). DONE! _________________

Haha, cracking a wireless network on a mobile phone? not exactly realistic...
Step 1: Get Linux (BackTrack 2/3 Beta is recommended as this is what is was made for)
Step 2: Get some sorta portable laptop. The EEE Asus laptop is good choice for this
Step 3 (This is what makes the mobile phone thing impossible): Make sure you have a working wireless card! This is the hard part as most wireless cards don't support linux, and you usually need to go out and buy a separate one.
Step 4: Follow the thousands of tuts you can find on working aircrack programs. |

Grab the Alfa 500mW USB Adapter Wireless. INSANE range, and works perfectly with BackTrack and aircrack.
@bam
I gave more info than you did Told him the best Linux distro, good mobile laptop, and that most cards don't work. You said just to install the needed drivers, making it sound that easy. The truth is, most cards don't work because there are no drivers for your card compatible for linux. You can use this nwrapper or something like that to make drivers work with linux, but I've never used it, and thats why I don't know what its called exactly (And it has a lot of problems). I just use the Alfa. |

actually, just because a guide you found on the internet said backtrack is the best, does not mean it is. Yes backtrack is good for this, though not the best. Most linux distros are good for this. _________________

BackTrack IS the best for this. No, its not just because a guide said this. BackTrack is MADE for this. This is its purpose for existence...BackTrack is made to "test" the security of a network. Yes, most linux/all support aircrack, but you can ask almost anyone about this who knows what they are talking about, and they will agree BackTrack is the best choice |

Yes, that was actually my school's pass for the wireless. Sad thing is, we put that in as a joke and it worked |

First off you don't need Linux, and I've found it to be easier to do on Windows. Stop listening to stereotypes, every time I mention hacking/cracking to someone, they always say "oh do you use Linux?" Linux is easier to hack, meaning to modify the OS, it has nothing to do with cracking security, and there's a much larger variety of programs to hack/crack on Windows. Now that that's out of the way...
You're going to need an open mode driver for your card, and not all cards will have a driver like this. Typically Cisco cards are the most likely to work here.
You need Winpcap to capture the packets, I would capture around 150,000 packets, that seems to work well for me.
Next thing to do is use Aircrack to crack the captured packets and find the key.
The whole process takes around 15-30 minutes if there's good traffic on the network, a less active network will take longer to capture the required amount of packets. If they have MAC filtering you shouldn't have too much trouble finding the MAC of one of the PC's connected. |

Not going to argue because I don't want to get in a stupid fight, but I suggest you stop using Windows for this sorta thing I read an article on Wired.com (Very reliable source I think), and they had an article on a future release of a Window's component. It was to stop unwanted programs that Windows found to be untrustworthy/law breaking. They talked about not allowing programs like limewire to work any longer on Windows. If they ever do put this in place, I would suggest switching OS for hacking I don't think Windows will like allowing a hacking program to be usable on their system. <---- This article is still just a rumor. Just thought I would through it out there
Aircrack doesn't work that well on Windows anyways in my opinion... |

Well, that's why I'm sticking with XP and not doing updates. Regardless, I use Fedora as well and I wouldn't have a problem switching to it completely, the point I'm trying to make is it's unnecessary to install Linux just to do something you can do equally well or better within the Windows install he likely already has.
Most Linux OSes are very good, no question about that, but far too often I see people pushing it where it isn't needed. |

Cheetah... we are not saying "use linux to crack the WEP because linux is the hacker system".... jesus...
We are saying use Linux because AIRCRACK ONLY WORKS (WELL) ON LINUX... I tried using aircrack on Windows and it would just not work (its the aircrack windows version)...
We aren't saying to use Linux because linux is most notorious for (real) hackers to use (as in hackers that modify things, since linux is totally open source) _________________
