I have said it many many many times before and got fed up with repeating myself,
made a post years ago with links about turning off dangerous and uneeded services and repeated that advice so many times it was laughable,
any other bullshit that people install themselves is up to them to decide whether they really need it or not as there is just so much shit out there that people insist on installing,
I hardly ever post now cos its answering the same questions most times anyways so just look in on the forum very rarely,
but as a quick fix a speedup program like !xspeed can do something,
best of all anyone can use it without any knowlege just need to click on the installation really and you get 4 times the speed out of your pc, or up to 256 times with the registered version,
well you'll never really use that speed,
now I'll piss off again for 6 or 12 months

windows gets slower with every program u install thats a fact!
so programms can't speed up windows 
overclock your cpu too 150% put a pan on hit and some fat in the pan start you computer it will run very fast and you can make your breakfast eggs in it after 20 minutes

look at cheat engines speed hack
that speeds up that particular programe/game
!xspeed speeds up the operating system all in,
I know cos I used it years ago and it makes everything run faster,
the only crap is that the newest one, v6 only lets you speed up 2X on trial
the older versions used to let you speed up 4X on trial for up to 50 uses
like I said I know it works cos I used it..
in fact in the older cheat engine days when nitto was top crap game instead of maple story, cheatengines speed hack and !xspeed were god

overclocking your cpu for a game is a mugs game most times,
ok if your happy with a dozen fans keeping it from melting and your happy with your electric bills
but why not just speed up the operating system instead,
if you want to go online and speed up your connection use !xspeed net if you can find it

if the prgramm speeds up you windows like cheatengine does it with games it will be hilarious
I'll tell you an easy example with speed gear speed gear install/download anything that needs a bit when windows is calculating the time put speed gear to 20000 (max) it will show u something like rest time: 4325hours cause it thinks time is running faster but it can't install faster make speed gear to 10 and it will show you sth like 1 second left cause it thinks the second needs at least half an real hour 
speeding up a game dont realy speeds up anythink it just tells the game that time is running faster otherwise for example warcraft 3 would run extremly fast on a 12 GHz quadcore computer dont you think?
so if you speed up windows like speeding up a game maybe folders will open faster but if the folder open double as fast it needs double processor
=> speeding up like this will cause the windows managment of resources to be even more worst than it's currentyl is
i mainly think the prgarmm do thinks like disable services noone need and unloading not needed files, deleting not needed dll files....

it doesnt delete files or change services,
it isnt a one off speedup that cleans up the system or anything like that, it just speeds up the clock rate or ticks rate that windows itself runs at
the newsest trial version only lets you speed up windows 2 times, the older version that I tried some time ago let you speed up 4 times during the trial ( 50 uses is the trial limit )
you can toggle it on and off when its enabled as much as you like so its not permanent changes its only when you want to use it,,
you get a little icon in the taskbar notification area when you start !xspeed up,
lets say you get an older version of !xspeed and you go for 4 times speed up,
while its running any game you start will zoom around 4 times as fast,, start unreal tournament and you can run around and shoot 4 times the normal speed,
close down unreal tournament and start windows pinball and everything zooms around 4 times as fast, the ball that flippers everything,
open up a folder and it opens 4 times faster, PLAY SOME MUSIC the song will play 4 times faster and the singer will sound like micky mouse
now when you want to run at normal windows speed again you hit the toggle off button and your back to the normal windows operating system speed as though nothing has changed, which in fact is true cos nothing has been changed,
if you buy it or find a freebie one you get the speeds doubling up in stages of 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256
256 is the maximum you can accellerate windows with this,,
and no amount of deleting old files or stopping windows services will do that ,
as I have said though try and get the older trial version before the v6 !xspeed cos the older versions let you speed up 4 times instead of the newer v6 2 times
