Nothing is impossible for the future of computers! I think she got a virus or locked/hide her dekstop. Or she could just be lagging very badly, so much that she can't do anything.

sure i thought that too!
i jus installed a game for my mother
late she came and played it i was near but i played wacrfat so havent seen what she did after 40mins she asked "where are the icons?"
i looked and the screen was blue -.- just blue like the bakckground im using i tried to log off (dont worked) i tried restart (dont worked) i needed restart button i thought WTF

Now is the time for you stop listening to stereotypes, nothing is foolproof. Linux OS's are generally more stable than Windows based ones, that doesn't mean they're perfect.

I've been running 64-bit XP for close to a year now and it hasn't crashed once either. Linux isn't the answer for everything.

Yes but the 64-bit XP does not have many drivers for it. Due to how the 64-bit version of XP never really took off.
For example my 8800M GTX has no drivers for 64XP
But I've crashed Kubuntu before, don't know what I did, but I managed to. Linux just is less prone to being retarded unless the user is retarded.
