You can use GetDC(0) 0 for desktop in C to get a handle to the desktop which get's a bitmap of it then save the bitmap. I made a print screen app one time. I might be able to find it on here, was written in C.

GetDC(0) followed by a BitBlt to transfer the bits of the image to a buffer...
