Yeah, but I wanted to do something that helped later in life, something that more people use, which is Java. I'm going to go into Java instead of C++ since there are more opportunities with Java.

By the way...What does OS stand for, and what does that mean?

Yeah, x0r is pretty much an idiot, Java is used way more than C.
OS stands for Operating System, like Windows or Mac.

Keep the debates to nothing more then that. The flaming remarks do not need to be part of the conversation.

C/C++ owns java in the end one way another. Java is too high level thus much slower than C is.

When assembler is like atoms, C is like water and Java is coca cola Very Happy

Again, you're wrong. Java does take up a larger market share than C(++) but it is not the most widely used language, furthermore; Sun takes up a fair quota of the programmer market share and most of their coders are spending time on VM parsers on different architectures and operating systems and even though you're too fucking dense to understand this I'll try and dumb it down for you:

Java code is compatible on nearly all operating systems/architectures.
Why? When Java code is compiled it is translated to an intermediary language (much like .NET), then being left to the VM which is coded by Sun to handle it.
Sun spends quite a bit of money & effort to get the VMs working on every operating system and architecture, because not every operating system/architecture works the same.

Now, let me just give it to you in words you can consume:

JAVA - IS - GOOD - IF - YOU - WANT - CROSS-PLATFORM - CODE.

DOES - IDIOT - UNDERSTAND?

Seriously, just fucking kill yourself or something; you're a waste of oxygen and time.

qft and winning statements. but anyway, learn java if u want to create NORMal programs, c++ for hacking, thought i think assembly is better isn't it? :S

FUCK JAVA
I learned it and got pissed at how slow my apps ran. I returned to C because of the speed.
If anything you should only sprinkle Java into C apps.
Ex. Azureus, C with Java mixed in.

The only problem with Java(and DotNet for that matter) is that it's code is stored, read and executed during runtime as byte-code - It simply makes it's execution slower; also it's limited to the VM's capabilities. Still, if you're into high level programming Java does offer some advanced features, and has it's own advantages.

lol, necro.
Anyway, java and C++ are programmed in very separate ways. In java, objects are shoved down your throat while C++ is normally more pragmatic. If you want to write real programs, learn the ins and outs of C/C++, if you want a dinky high level easy programming language, go for java. But I recommend both, just for programming experience if nothing else.
