I was wondering if there is a way to have CE keep track of the instruction pointer for say the 10->20 instructions executed previous to a specific instruction.

I am trying to backtrace from an instruction to determin how the pointer to the address is generated.

Not possible.
e.g:
mov eax,[eax+1234]
mov ebx,[eax+5]

and you want to find out how eax got it's value is impossible if you set the breakpoint at the address of "mov ebx,[eax+5] "

But what you can do is set a breakpoint a few instructions before and then trace from there. Also CE 5.3 has a new "Break and trace for xx instructions" that allows you to break at a address, and then let ce log the steps and registers for you. this works in fullscreen mode
